Prof. Dr. Gülçin YAHYA KAÇAR (Academician, Oud Artist, Composer)
She graduated from Gazi University Music Department in 1988. She studied flute with Presidential Symphony Orchestra flute group head Aycan Sancar, and oud, Turkish music composition and theory with oud virtuosos Cinuçen Tanrıkorur and Prof.Mutlu Torun. He gave his first oud recital with Cinuçen Tanrıkorur in 1988. He started to work as a lecturer on oud and flute instruments at Selçuk University, Department of Music Education.
She completed her master's degree on "Performance-Note Difference in Turkish Instrumental Music" in 1993 and her doctorate on "Yorgo Bacanos' Oud Performances" in 2000. In 1997, she was appointed as an instructor to the Music Education Department of Gazi University. She received the title of Assistant Professor in 2002, Associate Professor in 2004, and Professor in 2009. She gives lectures on Performance-Interpretation, Advanced Performance Techniques, Oud, Turkish Music Theory, Composition Analysis, Preparation and Development of Instructional Materials in Turkish Music, Performance Analysis and Criticism, Advanced Performance Methods in Undergraduate, Master and Phd programs. She has published many articles on Turkish music and education in national and international scientific journals and publications.
She has published ten books. Their names are as follows: Oud Method, Oud Exercises and Etudes, Yorgo Bacanos's Oud Taksîms, Turkish Music Children's Songs, Turkish Music Guide, Opinions on Turkish Music (Analysis and Commentary), Gülzâr-ı Mûsikî (Translated by Prof. Dr. Gülçin Yahya Kaçar), Ottoman Words and Subordinative in Classical Turkish Music Lyrics, Bergüzâr-ı Çanakkale, Composition and Performance Analysis Methods in Turkish Music.
She participated in national and international festivals and events. She was invited to radio and television programs. She has given recitals, lectures, conference and workshops. Gülçin YAHYA KAÇAR, who has a wide repertoire of Turkish Music, performs works belonging to different periods and composers in her recitals.
She was the first artist to play Mozart's piano concerto with the oud, accompanied by the symphony orchestra. In 1990, the "Turkish Music" CD was released in France under the name of the World Music Collection. She has three solo CDs: “Cinuçen Tanrıkorur Works” in 2000 and “My Dreams” in 2002. She was the General Art Director and oud artist of Buhûrizâde Mustafa Itrî CD (2013) and Abdülkadir-i Merâgi CD (2014). She has many awards and compositions.
She founded Gazi University Turkish Music State Conservatory, Ankara's first Turkish Music State Conservatory (2010). Appointed as Founding Director. She took part in the founding staff of Gazi University Fine Arts Institute. She pioneered the opening of Master's and Doctorate programs in the field of Turkish Music in Turkey. She worked as Gazi University Turkish Music Education Research and Development Center Director, Gazi University Senate Member, Gazi University Education Commission Member. She was a member of many science and art committee.
She is still working as a professor at the Ankara Hacı Bayram Veli University Turkish Music State Conservatory, Department of Instrument Education. She is married to retired police manager İzzet Kaçar and has two sons.
